Congressman Mo Brooks: President Biden Hurts American When He Opens Up America's Southern Border

February 11, 2021
Press Release

Washington, DC— Thursday, Congressman Mo Brooks (AL-05) blasted President Joe Biden’s rescission of President Trump’s border crisis national emergency declaration and termination of future border wall construction.

Congressman Brooks said, “Joe Biden puts Americans last and illegal aliens first— a significant departure from President Trump’s America First policy. Now is not the time to weaken border security. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents report that the tsunami of illegal aliens exceeds more than 3,500/day. The number of unaccompanied minors illegally entering America is closing in on 300 per day. CBP has encountered 200,000 illegal aliens attempting border crossings since October, and the number is constantly rising. America is experiencing a border crisis, regardless of whether Joe Biden recognizes it or not.”[1]

Brooks continued, “Ending border wall construction hurts American workers and endangers American lives. What’s perplexing is, in 2006, Republicans and Democrats— including then Senators Obama and Clinton, current Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, and Joe Biden— all voted for a hard, physical border barrier.[3] The Department of Homeland security reports that CBP saw a ‘79% decrease in apprehensions in [the RGV Sector] since the completion of border wall system.’[2] If the aim is to reduce illegal immigration, a wall helps achieve it. What has changed, Joe? Joe Biden doesn’t want to stop illegal immigration now. In fact, he aides and abets it.”

Brooks concluded, “By ending border wall construction, Joe Biden turns his back on American illegal alien crime victims. On average, illegal aliens kill roughly 2,000 Americans each year on American soil. Further, over 30,000 Americans are dead each year as a result of overdoses on illegal narcotics smuggled through our porous Southern border. In FY 2020, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) conducted 103,603 administrative arrests. Those arrested had criminal histories including more than 1,800 homicide-related offenses, 1,600 kidnappings, 3,800 robberies, 37,000 assaults, and 10,000 sex crimes.[4] Every illegal alien crime on American soil is avoidable. That’s what makes them so tragic. Suffering too are the American workers who lose jobs to illegal aliens and have their wages suppressed due to floods of cheap illegal foreign labor. Joe Biden demonstrates his callous disregard for Americans by weakening border security.”

Biden’s letter said, in part, “I have determined that the declaration of a national emergency at our southern border was unwarranted. I have also announced that it shall be the policy of my Administration that no more American taxpayer dollars be diverted to construct a border wall, and that I am directing a careful review of all resources appropriated or redirected to that end.”
